Workshop

Save the Date: Enabling Private Sector Clean Energy Investment in Southeast and South Asia

UTC+07

Past event

In March 2017, USAID, the Asia Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) Partnership and collaborating partners will host two workshops in Bangkok, Thailand on private sector climate investment in Southeast and South Asia. This event is the first workshop of the series and will focus on clean energy investment. You can learn more about the second workshop here.

Event Description

The growth in manufacturing, industrial, and services sectors in Southeast and South Asia is driving increased energy demand. Many companies in the region have public, near-term clean energy targets, but they face significant economic, structural, and social challenges to operationalizing these. This event will address the range of challenges and opportunities in target countries, opening the door for large-scale corporate clean energy procurements and energy efficiency upgrades.

Who is Attending
  • Leading corporations that have clean energy targets and a manufacturing footprint in Asia, their factory owners, and their Asia-based teams responsible for project development and energy procurement
  • Project developers, banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies active in developing business and financing models for renewable energy
  • Officials from countries in Southeast and South Asia committed to mobilizing private investment for clean energy development
  • Donors and development partner organizations that can help unlock private capital for clean energy
Event Objectives

Participants will gain a greater understanding of the policies, regulations, and financing models to mobilize and scale up private sector investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

On day one, participants will showcase corporate clean energy goals, explore country policies to enable private investment, review successful examples of large-scale corporate renewable energy procurement, and engage in structured, peer-to-peer learning on strategies for emerging Asian markets. The second day will feature dual tracks for private and public sector participants, with interactive sessions to develop actionable energy strategies.

Organized By

This event will be convened by the United States Government and the Asia Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) Partnership, with collaborating partners including Allotrope Partners, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
